Jade may be losing her mind. Or gaining a piece - she's not sure. Something she thought was dead inside her is waking up. Something she thought she'd lost years ago.

Someone she thought she'd lost years ago.

Lily.

Each night, Jade dreams of her childhood, of a lake, of Lily, and of a strange, cloaked woman who will not show her face. Jade starts sleepwalking and losing control of her powers. Coven witches complain of abnormal magic in the Nature Preserve and Jade doesn't know if she's responsible for it or not. Her lizard familiar, Bruce, is showing signs of sickness - something that only happens to familiars when their witch is ill. Her body isn't made to hold the kind of power she has; maybe the stress of being a witch is finally catching up to her. Jade needs help. Can she trust enough to ask for it? Can she accept it when it's offered? And what will happen if she does?

DoubleSided Witch Covencraft Book 3 eBook Margarita Gakis

This is an unusual book in so many ways. Thankfully, it hooked me in, without all of the "true mate-alpha male-defeat the evil monster based plot". The author is remarkably gifted in storytelling, but just needs to bring many of her characters from 2-D to 3-D. But on the whole, it a superior story about someone's magic skills being revealed while their personality is growing more complete also. It's a fascinating story to jump into.

In the first book, Jade is extraordinarily rude, and resistant to change, but no one seems to slap her down for being such a pill. But we can forgive this behavior somewhat, with all she has to contend with (uncontrollable magic, threatening demons, trying to fit in without knowing how, and her sudden awareness of feeling so incomplete. As hints and explanations begin to appear - more so in the second book - it's easy to see that she's socially clueless because she's an incomplete person. She has been a tough cookie, though, using her snarky tendencies to remain invulnerable.

I love the way the author slowly builds up to Jade's awakening personality, and her desire for completion. Her alarmingly rapid growth in magic skills, along with the increasing awareness of the mysterious Lily, her nightmarish sleep habits, and the dangers she faces, may be filling up her plate too much. She's trying to handle this, and has remarkable bravery in doing so.

The only shortcoming for me was being left with the feeling of being "cheated", because all other characters seemed to be "flat", and are little more than stepping stones for the plot development. This characteristic does not include Bruce, who's a real charmer and inarticulately wise, but who offers much needed, unconconditional companionship for Jade. Maybe the problem is that I expected more strengths from the Coven leader and his "society", and that would include a herculean task for most writers, which is to create more finely developed characters all around, without giving Jade short shrift.

Jade's problems seem to stem from what appears to be a classic Multiple Personality syndrome, due to an abusive childhood. Lily, the second, more subdued side of Jade's personality, will require a lot more development, but that seemed to falling into place. It's understandable because she had remained "unborn" for so long, and that both women were incomplete for so long. It's clear that they both need time to come to grips with the latest developments in their connection to each other. The stage seems to be set.

DoubleSided Witch Covencraft Book 3 eBook Margarita Gakis Reviews

There better be another one to read right now, not sure i can stand the curiosity waiting to find out what happens next! Love her writing style, mystery building and the characters I'm In love with
Good read. Each book keeps evolving.
The story arch just blew my mind. The main character's growth continues yet you can see where there are going to be some conflicts and perhaps love interests later in other books. I am hoping the author will be bringing them sooner rather than later. I hope you will enjoy these books as much as I have.
I have just read all three books in this series. I found all the books enjoyable to read. the only thing I found annoying about this book is the ending I don't know why authors have to put in cliff hanger endings to their books and then make readers wait until the next book is published to find out what happened. It is a punishment to readers to leave them hanging for answers while the next book is written.
I have read all three of the Covencraft books and enjoyed every sentence; grammar, syntax, spelling, plot, characters, you name it. But it just drives me crazy that every ending to each book is a cliff- hanger, and when I see 95% read on my , I know that I'm going to have to wait until Margarita Gaskis finishes the next one before I get t o find out what happens. They are worth waiting for, but .....yanno????
I have now read all three currently available in this series and it just gets better. The characters feel natural and you understand their motivations and friendships. An overall positive story of an outcast fitting in and magic. Then there is the 70lb lizard- my favorite character though he has no lines. Oh and a demon in the pantry- he is lovable in a sneaky count your fingers kind of a way.......The mysteries are not that surprising, but somehow you find you care what happens and it moves along at a good pace, you are never bored. I will be happy to find the 4th book has come out and if you liked The 21 Sided Sorcerous or Darkness Haunts series you should also like this.
This is a great read by a good story teller. The seemingly adolescent attitude Jade has to her mentor Paris is forgivable when I understood her as a 'deer in the headlights' type of character. She seems to be totally clueless of relationships unless they are in a video game type environment. She has acquaintences who would like to be friends but she is suspicious of their motives (they don't have any) and even of her own. That understood, the plot is rich but complex and actually enlightening.

That given, the story really requires reading the previous volumes to understand who and what Jade is; a complex but incomplete person, Jade both grows, withers and finally begins to thrive by the end of this marvelous story. As for Bruce, he has become an empathetic pocket dragon who assists and understands more than he can convey.

Thanks Margarita, a great read (Virtually no spoilers here, just an honest review ... )
