Can't believe I haven't read this one before! I thought I'd gotten my hands on everything Kathi has written!Kasey York is just trying to live her life. She is supporting not only herself, but taking care of her terminally ill mother. As a guard in the Hunter building Kasey has worked herself to the bone and only making part-time. With a slimeball supervisor she can't get benefits of a full time employee unless they come to an agreement ;) (yes he sexual kind)

Royce Hunter never wants to marry. He's happy with his life not being dragged down. But one altercation with Kasey has changed everything for him. Although he tries to fight his growing feelings for her he can't resist. Now with a surprise pregnancy in the mix he has his work cut out to convince Kasey he loves her and not just for the baby.
This book made me laugh, had me choked up, and more importantly falling in love with the characters. Kasey is a very independent woman, she depends on nobody but herself. Royce is stubborn and pig-headed, but when he falls, he falls hard and nothing is going to stop him from getting his woman.

I have come to expect a certain level of writing and story line from Miss Barton, so I was completely shocked when I had to force myself through this book. I was disappointed in the story and the price for the story. This will not keep me from reading her work, especially her Force series....those keep me coming back to this author time and again,
Well, Kathi did her magic again. She takes a strong character and meshes it with another equally strong character and allows the vulnerabilities to play out, totally ensnaring the reader into a plausible story that fits into reality. Granted, normal people never meet mega-rich families with perfect meddling parents, but seriously, who wants to... Kathi takes the reader on a path of employer manipulation of the worst sort and when employer policies aren't fully documented and posted, this allows for some extreme abuse and delusion on the abuser's part. When the blind employer is added to the equation (along with a meddling protective parent) the dynamic expands and allows for spirited interaction between Royce and Kasey with the added comic relief of the Hunter clan that demonstrates how adept Kathi is at weaving a new series without leaving the other ones in the dust.
What makes this plausible and different to read is that employer abuse is much more common in the workplace than previously believed. Employers often become blind to issues due to their own roles and stop looking out for the policies and practices that made them successful when their corporate identities began. Plus, when you add a delusional person into the equation, it becomes even more real and something to identify with while enjoying an engaging read.

I wasn't positive that this was a 4 star book, but I couldn't put it down so that's the score. There's the usual H meets h, but the addition of workplace sexual harassment and violence that may be hard for some to read. In addition, there's the usual bickering/arguing between the H and h, as well as misunderstandings and more than one foot-in-mouth problem. There is a HEA for Royce and Kasey and a meddling mother for setting up the next in the series. There were a few things like typos which might upset some such as where for were, but nothing big. Overall a good read.
I have been reading Kathi Bartons Paranormal Romances & have LOVED them...
This book was a good read , I Liked it alot I didnt LOVE it, but thats me...it has to do with my moods too. when I am in a shifter mood thats all I will read for ages so swapping out is sometimes a drag but ya need it when you read so many treats & then medochers follow! to to mix it up....this book had more angst than I was in the mood for. but it did have a fabulous h the H turned out better WAY BETTER as I read along. The ending was superfantastic! I do look forward to "Curtis" book 2 in the hunter series...
Royce Hunter is happily living as a wealthy bachelor and doesn't have any plans in settling down anytime soon. When he is stopped from entry into his building by a stunning security guard, Kasey York he finds himself intrigued by the beauty who stands by the rules. Of course he had not realized that it would leave Kasey in a vulnerable position and Royce playing a part in her life.
Royce can't resist Kasey but he isn't ready for what one night together leads to. Royce reacts without thinking and realizes he has a long way to make amends for his attitude towards Kasey.
I wanted to smack Royce, he is a bit spoiled and quickly learns from his own family that he has wronged Kasey. I enjoyed this book quite a bit, I am always a sucker for stories that have an arrogant male and a feisty heroine. Great first read in series.
This review might be considered a spoiler. Kathi Barton is one of my favorite authors, I love the Golden Streak, Force of Nature, Bowen Boys, and so on. So when this first one of the Hunter series came out, I bought it because it was this author, I thought there's no way I won't like it. I'm extremely disappointed with the way the family talks to her and basically treats her so badly for over HALF the book! Then way, way into the book, now he loves her!!! I only finished reading it because I thought it HAS to get better. But I never thought it would be so far into the story that he would stop insulting her all the time. I highly doubt I'll continue with this series. Mostly it depressed me - the writing was SO unlike the many other books I've read of hers. I thought about giving it only 1 star, but that seemed too harsh for me to do, even though I did hate the book - I still love her other series. but at $5.99 each, her books cost more than most of the ones I buy, so I'll be more careful to check the books, not just go by the author's name from now on..
